Good news, Foodies:
Cooking and baking for fat loss does NOT require you to go spend hundreds of dollars on specialty kitchen gadgets and machines, but investing in a few basics that you’ll use over and over again will save you time and money in the long run. After all Fat Loss Foodies are all about efficiency. Working smarter, not harder. Yes, we love cooking and baking more than just about anything, but we also have jobs, families, friends, and busy lives outside the kitchen!
#1 – Cuisinart Handy Prep 3-Cup Food Processor
“This compact Handy Prep 3-Cup Food Processor from Cuisinart features a chopping blade, a slicing disc and a shredding disc for quick and easy customizable food preparation in your kitchen.”
Fat Loss Foodies use this for: making protein pancake batter, homemade dressings and marinades, breaking down cauliflower for Paleo pizza crusts and pureed cauliflower, etc., tapenade and salsa.
PRICE: $39.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond (+ 20% off if you buy it in-store with one of their ubiquitous coupons!)
#2 – Aeternum Ceramic Non-stick Skillet
“From perfectly seared meats to light, fluffy omelets, Bialetti’s ceramic nonstick coating cooks food beautifully. Bialetti’s Aeternum “Easy” collection combines a beautiful design with modern cooking technology for great results while being free of PFOA, PTFE and Cadmium. The interior features a new ‘nano-ceramic” coating which is a water-based coating made of titanium and suspended silicate micro-particles, one of the purest and most ecological materials in nature. This material resists scratches, abrasions and offers a smooth, compact and uniform surface that makes it easier to clean and is stain resistant.”
Fat Loss Foodies use this for: omelets, scrambles, sautéing veggies, protein pancakes, stir fry.
PRICE: $21.15 on Amazon.com, although we found the one in the video at TJMaxx – a GREAT resource for Fat Loss Foodie kitchen tools!
#3 – Digital Food Scale
NOTE: I was unable to locate the exact digital food scale I was given years ago from Williams-Sonoma, but this one seems comparable and received great reviews online.
“OXO’s slim, ultra-compact digital scale is great for measuring ingredients when you’re cooking or baking. The display panel pulls away from the base, making it easy to check readings when your container overhangs the platform. As you add ingredients, just press a button to reset the scale and view the updated reading.”
Fat Loss Foodies use this for: making sure we’re eating enough protein! Getting 4-6 ounces of lean protein at each of your main meals goes a long way towards managing hunger, killing cravings, and turning on the hormones that burn fat. (For fat loss, you also need to make sure you’re not over-eating carbohydrates – but that’s another blog post for another time!) A food scale can also make for better homemade baked goods as measuring ingredients by weight (grams) is more accurate than cups.
#4 – Pampered Chef Rotary Grater
“Grate fresh Parmesan or cheddar cheese, chocolate, nuts, even carrots and zucchini! Our ergonomic design adds increased durability and comfort. The extra-wide, open drum has bi-directional blades to create a fine, consistent grate without clogging. A reversible handle makes it a perfect fit for both right- and left-handed use. Dishwasher-safe.”
Fat Loss Foodies use this for: grating carrots and zucchini for salads, stir fries, and baked goods. Grating cheese for frittatas, omelets, and egg scrambles. Grating potatoes and sweet potatoes for breakfast hash. I know, $40 for a CHEESE GRATER!? But listen – if you’ve ever scraped your fingernails or knuckles on a box grater and bled all over your cutting board and counter, you know this is so worth it, people!
PRICE: $41.95 on Amazon.com
#5 – Meat Thermometer
“This thermometer determines the temperature of foods quickly and accurately.”
Fat Loss Foodies use this for: cooking meat, poultry, and fish to the perfect temperature. Good quality protein is expensive, but we see too many women ruining good ingredients by cooking the flavor out of it. Use a meat thermometer to save your protein from overcooking into dry, hard hockey pucks that NO ONE wants to choke down.
